12-31-2005

998) Showgirls. Dirty, dirty, dirty, dirty, dirty. But I did really enjoy the relationship between the showgirl and her seamstress...

999) The Year of Living Dangerously. I always new Mel Gibson would play me in the movie of my life.

1000) The End of the Affair. And that, my friends, is what we call closure.

1000 down.

12-30-2005

997) The North Avenue Irregulars. I would have enjoyed this a lot more if I had watched it with Sarah. I swear I'm not trying to be depressing here, but she's kept on asking if I'd watched it yet and saying it's hilarious and telling me about different parts, just like with Follow Me Boys and The Ugly Dachshund and watching them with her was why I liked those. It was fun watching her get excited about scenes and characters and talking through the whole thing, not because I would have liked the movies anyway. So yeah, I imagine I would have had a good time watching it with her, but otherwise it's just another Disney family picture.

997 down, 3 to go.

- I'm headed to Fancy Nancy's for dinner, and then I'm back here to get one more tonight. I'll give you a hint: "Then I found out that sweet girl from Saved by the Bell made a dirty movie!"

And if you see Johnny football hero in the hall...

Tell him he played a great game, Tell him you like his article in the newspaper!

- I still love this album. Even though Popular is the worst song on there, it's absolutely hilarious.

- HAHAHA. Oh, Pac-10, when will you learn?

- Just got the Southern Miss monkey off my back. I've realized that my game strategery is straight from the Gene Stallings school of football, except that the UAB defense sucks. I'm blitzing like a freak since the D-line is the only strength on that side of the ball and keeping pressure on the QB is the only way to keep him from making completions. I think I had 7 sacks and a load of QB hurries and it worked pretty well, but both their touchdowns came off of deep passes so I was really lucky they didn't get a few more off since there were several times receivers were wide open. Actually, my defense scored one of our touchdowns, so maybe I'm closer to Stallings than I think. I also have come up with my own sort of hybrid pro-set/option strategy from a shotgun set that worked really well this time around. Before, I was trying to take advantage of Hack's arm but that just wasn't working, so I took a page from Urban Meyer's Big Book of Eating Crow and switched to a power run game that pretty well dominated the Southern Miss defense. One day I'll be a member of the offensive revolution, just not today.

- In real UAB Football news, HELL YES! I've been a little behind on keeping up with Blazer Football since their season is over and Basketball is on again, so I missed this a few weeks ago. My only question is, "which direction would that be Watson?" Hopefully it's one where the words "prevent defense" are never uttered. Also, hopefully it's not one where your DC has to leave the locker room FIVE MINUTES before the rest of the team to waddle his fat ass to the sideline.

- I'm just going to say it, as much as I don't wanna hear about a Trojan "threepeat" (I seem to recall LSU winning the MNC two years ago, but I could be wrong), I hope USC whips hell out of Texas. I tried to like them after the soft spot (or spots, as the case may be) in my heart for A&M turned to stone, but I simply cannot stand the Longhorns. Maybe it's the Orange jerseys, I don't know, but I want them beat and I want them beaten badly.

12-29-2005

995) Joshua. One more Barrows selection. They've seen to it that I have a family friendly run to end the year.

996) Men in Black II. Pointless sequel. Blech.

996 down, 4 to go.

Get up, come on get down with the sickness...

- The diagnosis is a sinus infection. I still think it's a tumor, but I'm morbid that way. I got a shot and another prescription and now I'm ready to go back to bed.

- You know what's better than regular sports? Cute Sports! Nicole is taking back her name from the likes of MWOAEG and a Badgers win over Auburn will go a long way towards that goal.

- Seriously, do you know how much it cracks me up to constantly refer to (my former) Nicole as MWOAEG? I really don't even have anything against her anymore. Yeah, she was a bitch and there's a few things that I might forgive her for but I'll never forget, but her handing me my walking papers is quite possibly the biggest favor anyone has ever done me. Really, if she hadn't I'd have stayed with her, put up with all of her shit, gotten married, and been a miserable wreck for the rest of my life. It also kind of cracks me up that she might actually be reading this. I know at least one of my friends still keeps in touch with her and might have clued her in on this whole endeavor. I doubt it, but still, there's that possibility. So anyway MWOAEG, if you are reading this, I hated you for a long time but now there are really no hard feelings. If you are reading this, I hope you're well and aren't taking too much offense to your moniker.

- I've added links on the right to both The Sour Dough and Cautionary Tale as well. Breadchick offered up some encouragement not too long ago and seems pretty nice (even though the possibility that she's actually seen Mary Lou Lord busking in Harvard Square causes me some jealousy), while Eric stuck it to THE MAN, too. Thanks for the support guys.

12-28-2005 Part II: Subhumanoid Meltdown

994) The Cat From Outer Space. Another selection from the Barrow's library. Cute family film. If only we all had alien cats with strange powers to influence the outcome of sporting events...

994 down, 6 to go.

- NCAA 2006 Update: Since I haven't bought a memory card yet and can't actually start my UAB dynasty, I've been playing the rivalry games to get used to the playbook and controls and I've turned into Watson. The first day I had the thing I put a serious whipping on Southern Miss but lost to Memphis, and now I'm whipping Memphis regularly while Southern Miss freaking owns me AND has seperated Hackney's shoulder EVERY SINGLE GAME. To add insult to injury, my second string QB is pretty fragile as well since I've wound up playing with the 3rd string for most of two games now. This does not bode well. At least I can say I beat Southern Miss once. Take that, Watson!

- Weird Coincidence Update: The fact that a girl named Nicole was interested in my love life was weird enough, but now I find that this guy is dating a Nicole (same girl?) that looks exactly like MWOAEG. How many blonde, blue eyed, glasses wearing Nicoles could possibly be out there?

12-28-2005

992) Soul Survivors. Decent, though predictable, teen thriller. Also, Eliza Dushku's arms are too short.

993) Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Never played the game or anything, I just figured I'd watch it because I'm really not interested in anything with a lot of emotional/intellectual weight at this point.

993 down, 7 to go.

- I'll start something else, but I doubt I'll stay awake for the whole thing. I'm exhausted and my perpetual headache is throbbing like an MFer. I have an appointment at 2 tomorrow afternoon to see about it since I've had it for close to a month now. I slept til 3 o'clock this afternoon, straight through my alarm clock and a dozen panicked phone calls from work, and when I woke up just moving my head caused some serious pain. You know that part in Bonfire of the Vanities where Wolfe is describing Fallow's hangover? Yeah, I get that now. Except I didn't do anything to deserve this. Hopefully it's not a tumor. Though I'm sure it is. Because that's just my luck.

12-27-2005

Finished this last night after updating:

989) Dust to Glory. Could this be 2007's feat?

Watched this when I got home after work:

990) Johnny Cash: Half Mile a Day. My sister got me Johnny Cash - The Anthology for Christmas and it had this documentary on it. I was a little weird about including it in the count, but it is a legit feature length 90 minutes and has an IMDB entry so I'm going to say it counts. It was mostly a basic overview of his life but there were a lot of good performance clips.

Then hit the theater for this:

991) The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. I vaguely recall reading these in the 2nd or 3rd grade, but didn't remember any details. Anyway, it was good, but it felt like a sort of Lord of the Rings Lite.

991 down, 9 to go.

12-26-2005

984) Flatliners. When the whole "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" thing first started up I owned that MFer. Seriously, it was a huge hit with the Dawson Memorial Baptist Church youth group set and when I run into certain people from high school they still talk about it. It was pathetic. Anyway, whenever anyone would challenge me on it someone would inevitably spit out "do Julia Roberts" in a really smug tone like she was the secret weapon that no one had ever thought to use before and there was no freaking way I could connect the two. So I'd always say "Julia Roberts and Kevin Bacon in Flatliners" in a real smug tone back and they would feel like the stupidest person on Earth and everyone would laugh at them and it was all in great fun. But yeah, I could see why no one would really remember that they were in this together, cause who would want to remember this movie existed at all? I mean, besides the Baldwin that got all the chicks.

985) Lightning Bug. Filmed right here in Alabama. A couple of local radio hosts are in it so they used to talk about it all the time. It was likeable, but nothing too special.

986) Cry Wolf. I'm going to have to go with WHATEVER on this one.

987) Robots. The first time I've actually found Robin Williams amusing...

988) Nothing in Common. Even with the awful 80s hair and make up, Sela Ward is still all that is beauty.

988 down, 12 to go.

12-25-2005 Part II: The Metal Years

983) Mulan. Sarah has been wanting to see it so I rented it. It was cute enough, but I couldn't enjoy it. I don't know how I'm going to deal with all of this, especially once the year is up and I don't really have anything to focus on. I miss her so much and hate myself for queering things between us. I was fine with what we had but I panicked when I realized I wouldn't have it always and now I don't even have it at all. Merry Christmas indeed.

983 down, 17 to go.

12-25-2005

979) The Filth and the Fury. Terrible documentary. I learned absolutely nothing about The Sex Pistols other than that they were jerks and stupid.

980) Near Dark. Pro: Lance Henriksen. Con: Soundtrack by Tangerine Dream.

981) The Crush. I don't know why, but I thought James Spader was in this instead of Cary Elwes. Either way, it's so bad it's good.

982) Buying the Cow. Veronica Vaughn...sooooo hot.....want to touch the heiney...

982 down, 18 to go.

- Merry Christmas.

- I'm updating now because Sarah is coming over and Van and Sara might come over later so I don't know if I'll get anything else done tonight. I'm not working tomorrow so hopefully I'll knock out 6 or 7 to get set for the final run.
