06-09/10-2005

I just realized I never managed to update last night. I'm a doofus. Anyway, I had planned on watching three tonight, but went to Fancy Nancy's instead to celebrate Kevin and Lauren's birthdays and just got in one. Oh well.

436) Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Much grosser than the first one (vomiting slugs? I don't need to see that.), but these are really good so far.

437) Boogeyman. Not a whole lot going on and nothing ever really gets explained, but it was pretty scary and I enjoyed it.

438) The Man Who Knew Too Much. One more off the Hitchcock list. I was really surprised by this one. It started off slower than the usual Hitchcock but when it got going it really got going. Superb.

432) Connie and Carla. I started watching this after I updated last night and was only planning on watching a little til I fell asleep, but I got sucked in and finished it around 2 am. Total rip off of Some Like it Hot (via The Birdcage), but I still laughed.

433) National Lampoon's Gold Diggers. HAHAHA! Sick, twisted, low-brow humor at it's absolute FINEST!

434) The Naked Spur. Time for another western. Jimmy Stewart is always a hard sell as a tough guy, but he manages to pull it off (and opposite Bob Ryan, no less).

435) Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed. Not quite as good as the first one (or the cartoons), but it's still Scooby and still Sarah Michelle Gellar.

430) Remedy. If I say a movie that has both Ace Frehley AND hot girl on girl action sucks, brother you better believe it SUCKS.

431) Fatal Attraction. First, let me say that I am not advocating cheating on your wife in any way. But if you are going to, at least do it with someone hotter than your wife because Glenn Close=Barf.

429) White Noise. Genuinely creepy at times, but totally boring the rest of the time. And who were the three guys supposed to be? Just generic evil people? Kind of dissapointing.

423) The Big Steal. Since I've been watching a lot of newer movies lately it was nice to dip back into the older Hollywood pool. This was more of a comedic chase/road picture than the film noir it was made out to be by TCM, but that's okay because I really enjoyed it.

424) Primer. I didn't really get what was happening in this movie. I understood what they were doing and the whole point, but there was a lot of confusion and plenty of times when it wasn't clear which "them" was onscreen. This is exactly why time travel should be left to Star Trek.

425) Ladder 49. I heard it was "sad", but no one told me it was going to be SAD.

426) Scorched. Two truths present themselves in this picture. 1) John Cleese will always be the funniest part of any given movie. 2) There is no possible way for Rachel Leigh Cook to be more adorable. Pretty funny for an indie comedy (see above comment concerning John Cleese).

427) Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. They showed the preview for Goblet of Fire before the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and Charity and I both have always been kind of "I'd like to see it because I'm curious, but I kind of don't want to cause I don't think I'll like it" about Harry Potter so we decided we would watch the first one and if we liked it watch the rest before Goblet of Fire comes out (in Nov. so we have plenty of time). Looks like we'll have to watch the rest.

428) Six Days, Seven Nights. Eh. It was okay, but kind of dumb, but kind of funny. Benign whatever.

06-04-2005 Redux

After I updated last night I wound up watching both of these:

421) Shanghai Knights. Good, wacky fun. Loved it.

422) The Woodsman. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to be all "go pedophile!" and have sympathy for him or not. I mean, he molested little girls and that's really all you can think about. But it was a well written and performed character study and Bacon was a total pervert.
